File Contents The executable file rio600_wmp7_2905 is a self-extracting compressed file, which when expanded, will place two files on your computer. Typically, the files will be extracted to a folder labeled C:\Rio\WMP_Drivers, unless the user has changed this default setting. 010125a_RioSupport_All.exe - This is the program that installs the required files to make your Rio 600 compatible with Windows Media Player 7. rio_wmp7_2905.txt - This text file you are now reading. =============================================================== 2. Instructions Note: This is beta software. For known issues, please refer to the known issues section below. For questions or comments, please email RioBetaTest@S3.com Instructions for installing the Windows Media Player 7 drivers. 2.1 Run the self-extracting program that you have downloaded from the Internet. 2.2 Once the files are extracted, they should be located in a folder on your hard drive found at C:\Rio\WMP_Drivers 2.3 Double click on the file named 010125a_RioSupport_All.exe. You should see a progress bar as the program installs. Once it is done, the required drivers should be installed. 2.4 To begin transferring files to the Rio with Windows Media Player 7, click on the Portable tab and follow the instructions. For further help with transferring files to the Rio, please refer to the help system built into the Windows Media Player 7 =============================================================== 3. Fixed since v1007: - Windows Media Player 7 will not recognize songs placed on the Rio600 that have been downloaded by RioPort Audio Manager or SoundJam. If you have songs on the portable player before connecting the it to the Windows Media Player software, you will see that the memory is not available, but you will not see the songs listed in the contents. The songs will still play ok. - Rio600 and 800 does not scroll through song title/artist info when transferred using Windows Media Player 7. - Some users may notice that Windows Media Player is slightly slower in transferring songs to the Rio. - When there are a large number of songs on the Rio (approx. 8 or more), Windows Media Player may encounter errors when transferring more than one song in a row. Transfer songs one at a time at this point, and allow Windows Media Player to fully display all songs on the Rio before downloading another song. If an error is displayed, simply resend the song. The Rio does not need to be reset. - When a large number of songs are on the Rio, each new download will take successively longer to fully complete (approximately 2 minutes). - Selecting portable devices tab on the Windows Media player may take a while to have the screen fully display if the Rio has a large number of songs on it. =============================================================== 4. Known Beta-Release Issues: - Windows Media Player 7 does not recognize if you have selected more songs then there is available space on the Rio. Trying to transfer more songs than there is available space may result in an error message to appear and may corrupt the Rio until the battery backpack is removed and reconnected (i.e., slide out and slide back in). - Attempting to download a protected WMA file with an expired license results in a download error with no further explanation. Remove the Rio battery backpack and reconnect to reset the Rio. =============================================================== 5. Release Notes This is the second publicly released version of the beta drivers for the Rio600 and Rio800 for use with Windows Media Player 7. ====================================================================== Rio 600 and 800 Windows Media Player 7 Drivers Readme File (c) 2001 Rio, A Divison of Sonic|blue Inc.
