Music
- What type of files can I play with a Rio player?
All Rio players can play MP3 and WMA files, many Rio players can play Audible files, and the Rio Karma can play Ogg Vorbis and ultra-high quality FLAC files.
- What are the differences between MP3 and WMA files?
Because WMA's can use a lower bitrate than equivalent sounding MP3's they are generally half as large as MP3 files and you can store more music in less space on CDs, hard drives, or Rio players.
- Can Rio players play Variable Bitrate (VBR) files?
Yes. Because there are many standards for VBR files, it cannot be guaranteed that every encoding software package will properly function with Rio players. VBR files that do not comply with common standards may lack track time, fast forward, and/ or rewind capabilities.
- Can Rio players play Digital Rights Management (DRM) files?
Yes. DRM is a type of encryption that is intended to protect copyrighted tracks and is added to many commercially purchased music files during the encoding process.
Files
- Can I use my Rio player to store non-audio files?
Yes. The Rio Nitrus and Rio Karma can store non-audio files using the Rio Taxi software that they ship with.
The Rio Cali (black button only), Rio Chiba (black or silver buttons only), Rio Forge, and Rio Carbon are all MSC compatible and can store non-audio files transferred using Windows Explorer.
Battery
- How long can my Rio player play music before I need to recharge or replace its battery?
Battery life is dependent on many factors. Using real world playback settings (128kbps MP3 tracks at volume 15 with default custom equalizer settings) Rio can confidently report the following battery life:
