ReplayTV delivers software upgrade 5.1 for RTV5000s and 5500s.
ReplayTV is very pleased to announce software version 5.1 to be downloaded automatically to all ReplayTV 5000 and 5500s as part of the ReplayTV Service. All ReplayTV DVRs will get the new software via a graduated rollout during the month of October. (Please note that forcing calls to the service cannot increase your chances of getting the software quicker.)
WHAT'S NEW?
Show|Nav™: ReplayTV already had the most powerful suite of tools to navigate within a show, and now we have leapt even further ahead of the competition. Show|Nav allows you to use the left and right navigation arrows to quickly jump forward and back between scenes in a show.
- Some people only care about the fourth quarter of the game? - With Show|Nav you can jump right to it.
- Quickly jump to the weather report in your local news - just a few taps of a button.
- It's not unusual to miss something while briefly away from the TV. With a press of a button you can instantly return back to the beginning of the scene.
- With Show|Nav it's easy to navigate by segment in your favorite news magazine TV show - getting right to the desired segment with a few button clicks.
Show|Nav joins our suite of powerful tools for total control navigation within a show. As you know, we already had Instant Replay, QuickSkip™ and Jump Anywhere, which uses the number keys followed by Instant Replay or QuickSkip to jump minutes forward or back.

Variable Bit Rate in Standard Quality: ReplayTV DVRs already had VBR on Medium and High video quality, and by adding it on Standard you get better performance which you will probably feel is more pleasant to watch. In particular, scenes with lots of motion will have less digital break-up and pixilation.
WHAT'S IMPROVED?
We made significant improvements in the following areas.
- Connecting to the ReplayTV Service: Perhaps the most obvious change here was adding a "Connect to the ReplayTV Service Now" button choice is in the Setup Menu making it easier to connect.
- Dramatic improvements: We've also made dramatic improvements in modem connectivity.
- Better System Performance / Faster Response: We've improved system response time in almost every kind of user interaction.
- Faster Channel Changing: Time between channel changes has been reduced by almost 2 seconds in most cases.
- More Set-top Boxes Supported with IR: The IR codeset has been expanded and should support all cable and satellite boxes.
- Even More Robust Networking: Automatic discovery of other ReplayTV DVRs on the same network has been made more robust. Also, room-to-room streaming via networked ReplayTV DVRs has been improved. Customers should experience a significant reduction/elimination of dropouts on with Medium and Standard quality, and far fewer in High quality pending they have sufficient bandwidth in their home network. Note: Room-to-room streaming performs best with wired networks. Wireless networks are supported, and 802.11G is recommended.
- Improved system stability: Eliminated Lockups and Hangs: We've addressed every known lockup or hang.
- Improved audio/video stability: Users will enjoy a better picture with fewer glitches. You just shouldn't see them any more.
WHAT'S NEXT?
We are quite pleased with this release, and feel it offers a much more satisfying experience for our customers. We continue to work on more improvements and you will see those in the future.
Regards,
The ReplayTV Team
